Overall Satisfaction with Quickbase

Cooper Steel uses Quickbase in several different process areas. We have built a custom Project Management application related to the process of fabricating, managing, and erecting steel structures. We also use Quickbase for Asset Tracking, and Vendor Risk assessment and qualification.
  • Rapid Development
  • Easy Forms Building
  • Integration with other enterprise systems
  • Mobile (phone) development is not great and somewhat unusable outside the most basic use cases.

Did implementation of Quickbase go as expected?

We have built several applications with varying degrees of complexity. The rapid development platform has served us well to get base functionality out in production quickly. We have extended some areas with custom UX features where necessary using 3rd party development partners recommended by Quickbase.
Microsoft Power Apps and OutSystems both were very robust, but felt overwhelming compared to Quickbase.
  • Building and deploying business applications faster
  • Improving collaboration across one or more teams
  • Solving a specific business challenge
  • Building and deploying an application (or multiple applications) that meets our exact needs
Cooper Steel is now using 2 larger complex applications and 3 simple applications in production. The user base has gone through the change management process and is now embracing the product in a better way with constructive feedback and high feature adoption. We have a roadmap of enhancements, and new feature sets across all our current applications.
We have not spread "citizen development" out beyond a couple of business-oriented resources. We would not want to promote citizen development across the organization because we would prefer to have them more focused on their current responsibilities. However, the resources that have been driving the application development are not traditional IT personnel. They were business users with a high IT IQ and have easily been able to grasp the low code development discipline.

We make updates to the applications in production on a near monthly cadence. So far all deployments have gone well.
Quickbase allows end users to build out functionality in a low-code environment. The Pipelines feature for integration is nearly on par with a Zapier or Power Automate as a platform with just fewer application connectors.

Integrations and Governance

We are using some sophisticated integrations where we are looping through record sets and making decisions to execute external processes in other systems.
The ability to automate processes in Pipelines is equivalent to Zapier or Power Automate if you can use the proper connections. Normal benefits that you would receive from process automation are present.
We have not had any focus on governance. Security can be as granular as you want it to be.
