Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform

We’re using Ansible for deployments and compliance within the Systems group, primarily on the Linux platform.
  • Playbooks are easy to write
  • Huge community means someone has probably written a play you need
  • Idempotent method makes testing low stress
  • Lack of agents is magnificent
  • YAML syntax can be a pain
  • Lack of built-in scheduling in community edition
  • Windows interaction requires some scheming
  • It has sped up Linux patching dramatically.
  • Deploying ‘template’ systems (think dev web servers) is a breeze.
  • We can now have a more vanilla VMware template and apply all baseline measures via a play.
My experience with Puppet and Chef is limited, but as a total non-programmer Ansible was just worlds easier for me to implement.

Would you buy Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform again?

Ansible is a given in nearly any environment. It can automate almost any infrastructure device you can think of.

It might not be worth the work for Windows only or environments with less than 50 hosts.
