Overall Satisfaction with Sage Intacct

We currently have three business user licenses that are used by the Finance Director, Contract Accountant, and a Consultant. We also utilize the employee licenses to give our Board Treasurer and our Auditor access to review transactions. Sage Intacct makes our annual audit simple because we attach supporting documentation to every transaction which allows for complete transparency and eliminates the need to pull any paper during the audit.
  • Reporting - The limitless customization allows me to present information exactly the way it is needed.
  • Segments - Saving numerous segments (Fund, Department, Program, etc.) allows me to track revenue and expenses with all the details required by our funders and stay in compliance with our grant terms and conditions.
  • Permissions - Saving multiple levels of access that can be adjusted on a granular level allows me to build internal controls and segregation of duties into the software.
  • Pop-up dialogue boxes do not auto-fit to contents and must be expanded or navigated using slider bars.
  • Main pages such as Add a bill don't auto-fit to contents or adjust fields to minimum size and are difficult to use on smaller screens. Some transactions are extremely cumbersome on a laptop-sized screen.
  • Inconsistency in appearance across modules. For example, the Add Attachment navigation is different in reconciliations than it is in journal entries.
  • Lacks the ability to search transactions without doing an export. For example, I recently needed to search for payments for translation services. In QuickBooks, I could press "Ctrl + F" and type "translation." In Intacct, I had to run a general ledger report, export to Excel, and then search.
  • Allows for transparency with Board Treasurer and Auditors.
  • Assists with internal controls and segregation of duties.
  • Tracks funds in compliance with all donor imposed restrictions and conditions.
We utilize the general ledger import function for payroll entries and month-end allocations. We also use the budget import feature which eliminates hours of manual entry.
Previous accounting systems include QuickBooks and Fund EZ. Most of the modules in Sage Intacct are intuitive and easy to use. Sage Intacct is exponentially more sophisticated than QuickBooks and easier to use than Fund EZ. We selected Sage Intacct because it was the only cloud-based accounting software endorsed by the AICPA.
Sage Intacct is excellent for nonprofits with multiple funding sources because it allows every dollar to be tracked all the way from receipt to expenditure or expenditure to reimbursement. Due to its high cost of implementation and annual licensing fees, Sage Intacct is not accessible for smaller nonprofit organizations with limited funding.
