Overall Satisfaction with SAP Business Technology Platform

We use BTP to supplement SAP EAM and APM. The main focus is on processes and workflows that are either industry relevant but without any standard solution on the market or that are Chevron-specific. I’m a Product Owner and define backlog and user interface design. We currently use BTP for three major asset management processes.

Pros

  • Flexible workflow management.
  • Automated work process steps approvals with email support.
  • Clean and flexible user interface.

Cons

  • Expand the standard integration with S4Hana bringing all tables, such as maintenance plans, task lists, etc.
  • Expand the standard integration with APM (asset performance management). Ability to create BTP “items/events” from an APM alert for example.
  • Add more options to UI.
  • Reduce process interruption, avoiding manual steps.
  • Provide a “custom” app without custom integrations.
It has enabled some critical asset management processes that used to be manual or standalone in the past. Bringing value to the business.
The native integration with SAP is the key differentiator that BTP has. Keep expanding on it.

BTP is a perfect fit to support company-specific processes and workflows where one may not find an off-the-shelf solution. The native integration with SAP creates the necessary infrastructure to allow for a sustainable “custom” app. But it must not be used to “create” apps that would be available in the market since we (chevron) are not in the IT business.
