Overall Satisfaction with SAP Commissions

Our commission payments used to be processed using reports and Excel. It was very timely and limited our ability to create more robust compensation plans. We brought in SAP Commissions to increase our time to market as well as increase our ability to align sales goals with incentive payments.
  • Configurable out of the box.
  • Allows for complex compensation rules (Rate tables, MDLTs, etc).
  • Has the ability to build cross-channel (non-hierarchy) relationships. For us, this is very powerful.
  • Can build a large data warehouse of commissionable data.
  • Speed to market can be as fast as minutes.
  • I personally dislike the new GUI. In my opinion, it was designed more for looks than functionality.
  • The loading of large rate tables and MDLTs could be improved upon.
  • "Show the math" All the code that calculates the actual payment is embedded in the pipeline runs. It is nearly impossible to extract it for reporting.
  • The efficiencies gained by moving from reports and spreadsheet alone has earned us a positive ROI.
  • SAP Commissions speed to the market allows us to quickly and cheaply change our direction to meet market demands.
  • Our sales force's engagement has drastically improved. We are now paying monthly instead of quarterly and have earned their trust.
We wanted a commission system that was designed for commissions and required limited configuration. SAP Commissions is just that.
  1. Ananplan is more of a financial software that can be used for commissions.
  2. Iconixx and Xactly are comparable to SAP Commissions but seemed to be built more for small to mid-size customers.
  3. Variacent required too much up front configuration work. It was not ready to use out of the box.

SAP Commissions is well suited for taking
transactional data and determining a commission payment from this data.
Some of our plans are quite complex and cross channels. To date,
SAP Commissions has been able to handle everything we have thrown at it.

SAP Commissions can be used for territories.
However, it is not its strength. There are better tools in the
market for this (Anaplan).
