Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA

Based on my exposure and experience with SAP HANA since 2016, would like to share the following personal perspective 1) Most of the organization have spent substantial budgets in rolling out an ERP solution and there after maintaining it 2)Many a time the solution implemented are heavily customized 3) Organizations are really scared to implement a change, especially if it forms the backbone of their operations and is spread across multiple user groups, geographies and business With the above points in mind, the best use cases I have seen are (as in sequence) propelling 1) Hardware refresh 2) If the implementation is more than 4-5 years old and the business operations have significantly grown since implementation. This would require a reimplementation 3) If the business is on expansion mode (across geos and products/services etc) and need an interconnected /(near)real time operational reporting 4)Demergers 5)wanting to kickstart a cloud journey for organization 6) Superb sales pitch complemented by an underutilized budget and an overzealous IT team (with hidden agenda of increasing their longevity in the organization
  • In-memory processing changes the name of the game for DB performance while enabling the storage
  • Data storage is enhanced due to better compression
  • Response time to complex queries are phenomenally better
  • Proactive monitoring enabled
  • Supports cloud platform integrations
  • Requires higher processing power, otherwise it won't fly. How ever computing costs are lower. Incase you are migrating to cloud please do not select the highest config available in that series . Upgrading it later against a reserved instance can cost you dearly with a series change
  • Lack of clarity on licensing is one major challenge
  • Unless S/4 with additional features are enabled mere migration HANA DB is not a rewarding journey. Power is in S/4
  • Better user satisfaction due system performance
  • Since it is only DB level change, user community are not impacted . ie minimal change
  • Scales up reporting capability
  • Improves the maintenance approach of applications compared to the previous DBs
Interestingly Workday financials is getting paired with Workday HCM.. Do not find it a comforting approach if one has to have tight integration with logistics operations
1) Improved processing capability 2) Queries were optimal while giving full visibility 3) Initial step for a long journey well settled with this support

Improved and stabilized since 2016 beginning

Do you think SAP HANA Cloud delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with SAP HANA Cloud's feature set?

Yes

Did SAP HANA Cloud live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of SAP HANA Cloud go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy SAP HANA Cloud again?

Yes

Mere migration to SAP HANA DB is not an overall rewarding exercise. However for one it can be rewarding exercise if 1) its an old existing system which would not want to migrate to S/4 directly but would like to take a least risky option of migrating in 2 phase which 4-5 years apart 2)Go for SAP HANA if you want improve technical performance but the organization is not yet ready to embrace a full-fledged change in business operations immediately
