Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3
Our Scale Computing HC3 is being used across the whole organization. It is currently delivering our server computing needs for all departments. From file and print to Exchange and SQL. We were looking for a solution that met a number of criteria. A secure, cost-effective, reliable solution that delivers a disaster recovery component. It delivers on all these and more.
- Disaster Recovery: Ability to pair it with a secondary cluster for snapshot replication offers peace of mind.
- Ease of Deployment: Plug in a few IP addresses and you're up and running on the platform.
- Secure: The HC3 platform delivers a secure and robust solution.
- Easy to use and no licensing fees: No more worrying about Standard, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus licensing. One price for all.
- Support: Their support team is knowledgeable and good to work with should you have issues or simple questions.
- Could use some polishing in some of the functionality. Example being the ability to power on a virtual server on a specific Host. Currently not able to do that as it picks the server with the most available resources. We have one server in our cluster that has less RAM than the other 2 units so we would like the ability to utilize that more.
- Pricing on components after the fact. Was a bit of a sticker shock when I asked for pricing to increase the Ram in one of our hosts so it would match the other hosts in our production cluster. We could buy a new server with that cost.
- Deployments and pre-sales. When we deployed, there was a grey area on how this was done. Using Move licenses that cost extra dollars that weren't part of the original quotation. We thought we were getting more than we received.
We run our entire environment on HC3 platform. From simple File and Print to SQL and Exchange. Experience so far has been great, the ability to scale out will assist us when adding future workloads. We currently run 35 virtual servers off a 3 host production cluster.
- We haven't calculated ROI outside of the time savings from a management perspective. With a traditional virtual deployment, you usually have Servers, network and storage to manage. In this case, it's all on the one box. Point and click!
- Upgrades to the environment are easy. Simply start the upgrade process and the system automatically migrates workload over to other hosts allowing you the ability to enjoy your coffee! No longer worrying about storage and networking as a result of upgrading.
- There would also be power and cooling savings as a result of running less equipment. We do not have metered power as it is a shared facility so unable to calculate at this time.
We selected Scale computing for its simplicity, its cost-effectiveness and its ability to recover data in the event of a disaster. When it came time to refresh our previous virtual environment, we looked at traditional server/storage, server/san, and other HCI competitors. In the end, Scale was the right solution for us. We look forward to using this solution for years to come.
