Overall Satisfaction with Scale Computing HC3

Our organization utilizes a 4 system node cluster as a form of the disaster recovery plan, as well as a way to lower our total cost of ownership and increase our return on investment. From AD services, files sharing, databases, and security, we utilize this as our virtual server solution.
  • Lowering cost on virtual licensing.
  • Ease of use.
  • Above average support.
  • Being able to export virtual machines back into VMware without a 3rd party product.
  • The interface should include how much hard drive space is being utilized in a windows environment without having to log into the server.
  • Increase integration into other platforms such as agentless backup solutions. One is in the works with Acronis, but having multiple options would be preferred.
Support is great in that they are easy to get a hold of and always available. We have found the level of expertise is growing, but not fully polished. They have a lot of staff who are still learning without having a solid foundation of the basics. Overall we are happy with them, but looking forward to a more seasoned staff in the near future.
Active Directory, with 2 primary and 2 backup domain controllers. We have run multiple anti-virus servers, file server, web server, database servers, as well as dozens of proprietary mission-critical application servers. In our one year of using them, we are happy to report fewer errors and issues than we experienced under VMware.
  • We saved $14,000 in VMware licensing fees by making the change. That's $14k every 3 years.
  • We increased our disaster recovery response by having an extra node for the same price as a Nutanix solution.
  • I was able to train a person on how to use it in less than a day, very easy to use.

We found the pricing and response better in our evaluation. I would not exclude looking at Nutanix at renewal as the person in charge of working with us was the main reason we went in another direction. The person did not get back to us, but in fairness had one foot out the door and did leave them. However, I can say that the learning curve is much quicker with Scale. Nutanix has more options though.
Scale is a great solution for budget-minded institutions that also have a smaller than average I.T. staff. It has been reliable for us.

For those business that need more reporting, this is not the solution for you.
