Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic SL1

As far as Implementation is concerned, i think I never ran into any major trouble (whatever it is, it's just local infrastructure specific). Once all your NW ports and connectivity is in place, it won't take much of your time to install the product. configurations are also easy to complete. VM configuration takes no time, except the environmental configuration which is company specific. Onboarding is easy via SNMP based monitoring.
ScienceLogic SL1 is primarily used by us as an event based performance monitoring tool which further got integrated to a MoM and then to other ticketing and Automation tools. Since we have a huge Infra to support, ScienceLogic SL1 holds prime relevance in our entire tooling solution. This is the single source of truth as far as our NW device inventory is concerned. All devices in our scope has to be included in ScienceLogic SL1 first. Based on the configuration backup requirement, we have RestorePoint as well as in the solution. The best part is, it's been the same vendor product now and with the Sync Pack available on vendor product, we can automate the RestorePoint On-boarding process. This helps in optimizing the Onboarding efforts.
  • With the use of PowerFlow and sync Pack, integrate and simplifies the Onboarding process.
  • The Use of Global Manager puts forward a Holistic view of your entire tooling Infrastructure through a single glass of pane.
  • Monitoring various Network and storage device vendors and the support can be requested pretty easily for any new vendor make or model via support page.
  • Cisco ACI Monitoring has some challenges with Rest APIs as we are facing some issue with the endpoint alerting which we don't have a way to properly snooze.
  • Alerts or KPIs needs to be flexible so it can adept easily while we migrate form any other tool in the market.
  • Tool should provide Flexibility locally in the configuration so that we don't have to alter the Global settings until/unless thing is required on a Global span.

Do you think ScienceLogic SL1 delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with ScienceLogic SL1's feature set?

Yes

Did ScienceLogic SL1 live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of ScienceLogic SL1 go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy ScienceLogic SL1 again?

Yes

  • We are still evolving with the tool so can't really comment on the actual RoI but the features provided does adds up the customer expectations.
  • Global manager usage gives us the holistic view of separate SL1 infrastructures
  • Power flow helps to use some pre built Autometas which helps saves lot of time and effort
  • SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm)
We were using Solarwinds suite of products before migrating to ScienceLogic. Though it comes with various modules like NCM, NTA, UDT, IPAM etc, but with the current scope of Performance Monitoring and fault isolation, I think it has an edge in the analytics and graphical display of data it provides. The only demit I can say is it's scalability and large Infrastructure support.
The reporting and analysis the tool provides is great but it somehow lacks in robustness. As we scale the infrastructure, it lacks a bit when compared to other leading tools in the market. The sizing needs to be flexible and it should perform as efficient as it does when dealing with a smaller environment.

power pack should be extended for support and the use should be simplified so we don't have to do lot of out of box customization.
