Overall Satisfaction with Sigma Computing

Sigma Computing is being used to analyze data reported by a network of android-based devices in the field, and the manufacturing info for those devices. In particular, my team uses it to track errors or issues that are reported. Sigma allows us to see trends for issues as they arise and predict future failure rates.
  • Aggregating large data sets.
  • Charting the data.
  • Performing quick queries.
  • Saving queries by user and allowing users to share queries.
  • The user interface had at least one big change in the past two years, which was confusing.
  • I would like to be able to create and run report on the fly, instead of having to schedule them.
  • Better navigation using tabs and menus.
  • Positive - identified emerging issues quickly so they can be tracked and worked on.
  • Positive - ability to drill down into data sets quickly allows us to identify suspect populations if we have defective components.
It has a clean and modern interface. However, it is not completely intuitive. I think it would be better and easier to navigate with more Windows style drop down menus and/or tabls. There is a significant learning curve, but that may be due in part to the technical nature of this type of software tool.
My support has been primarily through our internal company data team, so I have not had to use any support directly from Sigma Computing.
This has been helpful to me. I have had some experience writing SQL queries in the past - and while I can do it, it is much faster and easier to use the interface provided in Sigma Computing. I haven't had to do any particularly complex queries yet, but I would be interested to see how Sigma can handle increased complexity.
I have not created any dashboards yet, but I have used the visualization tools for doing basic charting. It seems like there are enough charting options to do what I need in most cases, and I like the way that the options are presented in the interface. The charting tools seem fairly intuitive.
There are several topics that are being tracked across multiple teams in our company, and it has been very useful to create shared workspaces. I have used this capability quite a bit to leverage the work done by others. I really like how I can copy documents that others have created, and then put it in my own workspace and customize it.
In general, I have found that there is just a slight lag of maybe a few seconds when I am accessing large data sets. It is very usable, and has not been a problem for my work.
I was not part of the evaluation process in selecting Sigma. I do know that our team did look at some other products, and one of the big drawbacks about one of them was that it was very difficult to export the results from reports or queries in a format that was usable in Excel. For my work, that would be a deal breaker, so I am glad to see how easy exporting is in Sigma.
It is well suited for analyzing large data sets, or bringing together several data sets in one place for analysis. The tools provided are very powerful. It is not good for people who want to start using it quickly with little experience. It is great when you need to be able to quickly export reports or data sets.
