Smartsheet is used across our organization as an alternative to heavier, more expensive project management softwares. It successfully addresses the needs of small companies looking for a online tool that can be accessed from anywhere and provides excellent customer support. Each of our project managers use this tool to manage their ongoing programs.
  • Gantt View is excellent for project timeline visualization
  • Dependent dates allow for easy date updates.
  • Ease of manipulating views makes using this tool a must
  • Smartsheet could create a means to better track tasks that are partially complete
  • Use of email alerts could be more integrated into the tool.
  • Use of excel based formulas would be helpful.

Our organization prefers a web based tool as opposed to heavy software and Smartsheet provides that option. Its use of HTML 5 is key to its usability and we have yet to experience load problems or work loss issues. This tool seems to be the best value on the market for small to mid size companies.
Since Smartsheet does not give the user the option to export their work into anything other than a pdf, we will likely continue to use this product to maintain access to our project plans. However Smartsheet deserves a high rating for ease of use and user-friendly and responsive customer service staff.
This tool is very well suited for small to mid sized companies who occasionally need a project management tool but do not want to invest large dollars in an enterprise wide solution. Key questions to ask during the selection process include how many users in my organization will use this tool and do I prefer to have a web based tool rather than software.
