Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our agency uses Smartsheet to track the progress of website design and development projects. We like that we're able to collaborate with our clients and add dependencies for various tasks and milestones. This enables us to forecast more effectively if something falls behind and show the client where delays came up and why.

Pros and Cons

Customization - you're able to add whatever you need to your project.
Dependencies - when you can't start something until a particular task is done, you can set that up and automatically adjust project dates.
Shareability - we share this tool with our clients and team and it works great to keep everyone on the same page with larger projects.

Cost - due to how we use Smartsheet with larger web projects, it doesn't make sense for us to maintain an ongoing subscription.

Basecamp

We use Basecamp for our day-to-day in-house operations, but need a more "rigid" structure (spreadsheet) for managing projects with clients. Everything is in one place in Smartsheet and clients are able to find and use it easily.

At our agency, we really like using Smartsheet for larger website design and development projects. We can build line items for each task associated with the project and build dependencies with due dates that automatically adjust as certain parts of the project fall behind (this seems inevitable with this type of work!). We share the Smartsheet project with our clients in order to give them full transparency for where things are at and what is impacting the bottom line (launch date).
