Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor

We use SolarWinds Network Performance Manager throughout the organization and it helps us monitor outages and utilization.
  • Monitoring switch up time.
  • Monitoring services on application servers.
  • Monitoring switch ports.
  • The user interface could be designed more like a dashboard.
  • Faster response to outages.
  • Monitoring uptime metrics.
  • Monitoring what services are running on your application servers.
SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is more expensive than the alternative we evaluated. We evaluated Paessler's product, PRTG Network Monitor, and SolarWinds' licensing was more expensive based on the options that we needed for our environment. Although cost was a factor, support and ongoing sustainability led us to choose SolarWinds over PRTG for our network monitoring tools.
The best scenario to begin using SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is when you need to monitor mission critical services and network resources. If you need to justify or report service level agreements, that is another use case for SolarWinds Network Performance in a enterprise or large network environment. Finally if you need graphic representations of your network and connections, SolarWinds Network Performance is a great tool to manage these needs.
