Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

We use SolarWinds to monitor our daily operational status throughout the corporation's IT infrastructure. SW is used solely by the IT department. It addresses the need for real-time network information to identify and remedy slowdowns, downed equipment, and maintain heartbeats.
  • Real-Time monitoring
  • Vast monitoring database
  • relatively easy to input nodes
  • licensing is very confusing
  • the GUI isn't as user-friendly as one would like
  • Would like to see better out of box reporting
  • lowering downtime by identifying the problem spots
  • historical data to see resource hogs
SolarWinds is much more robust out of the box that WhatsUp Gold was, without having to purchase many more modules
Not appropriate for endpoint monitoring, but monitoring a core infrastructure you're able to track down where things are coming from. I'd strongly advise against using it for edge switching monitoring.
