Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

Our organization is using SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM) to keep track of our SQL Server/processes to see who and what is using the most data.

Pros

  • Manages SQL Processes
  • Manages server health/performance
  • Helps to minimize downtime for applications
  • Alerts for application errors

Cons

  • I think it could stand to be easier to configure. Currently it seems you need to do quite a bit of research to set it up.
  • SAM has helped us troubleshoot our SQL server database processes faster.
I haven't tried any other products. We chose Solarwinds based off reputation and online reviews.
It is well suited in any server environment. I could see where it would be less useful in a smaller production environment.
