Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
We currently use SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor to monitor our servers and application for issues. SolarWinds is used to monitor general server availability as well as response times. We have created monitors that also monitor free space as well as application availability and CPU load.
- SolarWinds monitors CPU thresholds well.
- SolarWinds monitors application thresholds well.
- SolarWinds monitors application availability well.
- Setting up the monitors for the first time can be a little tricky.
- Setting up the monitors requires direct access to the server hosting the application. It would be nice to be able to do that from the webpage.
- SolarWinds has alerted us to potential problems based on thresholds we have set up.
- SolarWinds also has the capability to store performance metrics which has allowed us to see differences over time.
SolarWinds is much more intense and configurable than HP System Insight manager but is also more difficult to set up properly than HP System Insight Manager. Its also very solid with any amount of devices while HP System Insight manager has trouble handling the load of 500+ devices.
