Big and complex infrastructure - SAM is your choice.
Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
The company I was working for had a fully virtual data center (DC) located in a third party cloud provider. Cloud hoster was providing full admin access to the SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor solution to control, monitor and analyze the state of our virtual data center. Application was used by the IT engineering team.
Pros
- Huge variety of options for monitoring.
- Flexible configuration.
- infrastructure mapping.
- Performance and storage monitoring.
- Single console for virtualized assets management.
- Alert management.
Cons
- Integration with other solutions for better monitoring and control.
- More details on monitoring Exchange, SQL, IIS, etc.
- In most cases, the interface is overloaded with information that is not important for quick monitoring check and takes time to understand all the functions.
- Never had downtime because of servers failure. All the issues were resolved at the right time.
- Decreased time for troubleshooting and resolving issues.
- Reporting options made IT management happy by seeing what's going on in their department.
- WhatsUp Gold and SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
Didn't have a real chance to choose. But having experience with some other solutions, especially comparing with WUG - SAM is a pretty decent solution compared to functionality for the money it costs.
