Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Virtualization Manager (VMAN)

It is great to have auto-monitoring from SolarWind's virtualization tool. We use this tool in our department. It is great if we want quick and fast results and solutions. It provides an accurate status of the system. I also like the way it can be used for monitoring troubleshooting and optimising; it's very simple to use. We use it for cleaning up data.
  • It provides information alerts and allows us to have the accurate status of the system.
  • Helps in problem solving before anything serious can arise.
  • Increases the uptime by optimising the provisions of the resources.
  • Simple to install and easy to use.
  • Gives graphical presentation by showing where the problem is shown.
  • performance monitoring, VM sprawl control, configuration management, and chargeback automation; all in one awesomely affordable product that’s easy to download, deploy, and use. Simply download and install the software and take a break while Virtualization Manager auto-discovers the virtual machines in your environment.
  • It's a bit expensive.
  • A license is hard to get.
  • Better if it could be allowed to have a lot more automation.
  • Monitors resources and makes recommendations on changes and upgrades.
  • Sometimes VM seems to over-report on issues. An example would be that we have allocated memory to the VMs to a point at the monitored threshold. Instead of it understanding that was allocated and basing memory utilization on the host based on its available memory (for the host OS), it reports warnings that it is low on memory resources. This should not be an option.
Seamless incorporation into the Orion framework. We needed a tool to tell us what was going on with our vSphere environment beyond what vCenter was telling us. There are just 2 of us that manage 40 ESXi hosts on1000 virtual machines and we needed some additional insight. I have some daily & weekly reports sent to my inbox to help keep tabs on things like available disk space and newly created VMs.

Solar winds virtualization manager stacks up against them because of this features

• unified dashboards, alerting, and management
• Use the host agent to run Snap™ and Telegraf™ plug-ins and provide drop-in monitoring for your key systems, and
• Leverage the large number of built-in integrations available for both systems to extend the solution to meet your infrastructure monitoring needs.
Though it does not allow for a lot of automation, it's very easy to set up and grant access to an account. Very simple to use. For quick and accurate results, it's very unsuitable.
