Overall Satisfaction with Splunk Real User Monitoring (RUM)
Splunk RUM helps in identifying the pattern and behaviour of the end-user when he is interacting with your application. It helps in identifying what services are most frequently and least browsed by end-user. Also, it helps in identifying bottlenecks in case services are slow or end-user interaction is taking too much time capturing their response time, and errors (if any).
- Identifying brute attacks.
- Helps in identifying end user behaviour.
- Capturing pages which have slow response time.
- No live stream of data.
- Splunk is entirely dependent on logs which means no logs then you can't perform a Splunk query.
- Splunk RUM needs to be a bit simplified in terms of user interaction.
- Capture metrics related to client side performance.
- Http errors ranging from 4xx-5xx.
- Response time, stability of page.
- Splunk is a single platform to perform all your analysis from front end to backend and all services.
- Splunk licensing is quite costly.
- Splunk is an excellent tool for data engineering and cyber security purpose.
We are having other monitoring tools like AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Datadog and already using their end-user monitoring capability. Most of our customers are looking for agent-free monitoring where they don't want to instrument any agent on their client-side (as it might interfere with application functionality) and still want to capture important metrics. I guess in that case Splunk RUM comes into the picture picking up those important metrics without instrumenting any agent.
