Overall Satisfaction with Tealium iQ Tag Management System

A single department implements it for use across the entire company. It allows teams across the company to quickly and easily inject JavaScript anywhere on our sites. The main purpose is consistent behavior tracking and analytics, that only has to be managed in one tool by one team. We've been long-time users of the product.
  • The utag.data data layer. We utilize this to the fullest.
  • The custom Javascript templates and extensions.
  • Stability.
  • You need to be a JS developer to really utilize the custom work many sites require.
  • There is a bit of a learning curve.
  • Lack of version control support on tag templates.
  • I am a user of the tool and am not very familiar with the high-level ROI.
I've used GTM on my own personal site. The reason I used it over Tealium was because it's free and my site sees very little traffic. I have not used any other competitors but have talked to many others who have. There are a lot of differing opinions, but it seems that Tealium and Ensighten are the most widely regarded.
The large database of pre-built vendor tags is one of Tealium's largest selling points. For me as a tracking engineer, I preferred hard coding the tags via the tag and extension custom templates, but Tealium has a large number of supported vendors and they update them as the vendors make updates.
