Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer

I used TeamViewer in a Mac environment to help with the remote support and administration of systems locally at the office and remotely across the world. Because I was the only IT support personnel I was the sole individual to leverage the program's full capabilities of remote access, file transfer and unattended access. These features greatly helped me to easily and reliably troubleshoot end user workstations with very little administrative effort.
  • Setting up remote unattended access for future use is a huge help as it allows users to leave their computers on after they are done working so I can remote in without requiring the user to approve the connection. This allows the user to go on about their lives without needing to be tied to their desk waiting for assistance.
  • The window scaling is done very elegantly and works very well when connecting to computers with varying display resolutions.
  • The mobile experience is also done very well where one can swipe across the display and tap on what they need or move their finger across the screen to move the cursor and screen to view the specific areas of interest.
  • File transfer capabilities are a nice to have to get or send files to and from the client system.
  • A disadvantage I would say has to be the cost. TeamViewer is not cheap and deciding which tier should be purchased sometimes comes back to haunt you. When purchasing it becomes one of those "Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" situations.
  • Often times if you leave a remote support connection active for too long it will automatically close the connection since TeamViewer thinks the session went dormant. This is good as it saved unnecessarily used bandwidth but annoying if you need to constantly monitor a system.
  • TeamViewer is a bit more bandwidth hungry than some other remote support apps so if you're working on a system connected to a poor internet connection you will see a major lag in response time from the end point.
  • Tens of hundreds of hours were saved by being able to easily remote into an end user system instead of having to attempt to walk through a problem on the phone. This alone has saved us thousands of dollars in saved man hours spent resolving end user workstation problems.
  • Using TeamViewer significantly reduced the stress of daily support tasks and routines.
  • End users were able to get back to work more quickly after implementing TeamViewer. This ensures end users can get back to work faster and thus maintain a high level of productivity.
Compared to applications such as GoToAssist, TeamViewer is leaps and bounds ahead due to the well developed mobile and desktop support applications. The tiered pricing structure also adds more flexibility than other remote support applications.

Mac support on TeamViewer was a major advantage given the majority of systems run Windows. Applications such as GoToAssist lack severely in the department of Mac and mobile device support.

TeamViewer has nearly everything an IT organization could need for supporting a broad set of geographically dispersed endpoints.

We're able to provide effortless support assistance to the computers and the people who need them at a moments notice. This simplifies the support and troubleshooting process saving time and getting people back on task quickly, which helps us maintain a high level of productivity.
We have not taken any of these into consideration at this time.
TeamViewer is well suited in cases where a small team manages a large amount of users and systems. It is also handy for a larger IT team who manages a globally distributed workforce. This is especially true since TeamViewer doesn't require any special ports opened in firewalls in order to function.

It doesn't make much sense to spend several hundred dollars on the service if a single individual manages less than 20 workstations.

TeamViewer Security and Support

I did not buy support for this product because I find it very easy to use.
Remote locking and shut down are very important to have in the event we need to shut out access for security or turn off a computer in the event of a security breach.
Yes, it's a great service that works very well.

Using TeamViewer

1 - I'm the sole owner and sys admin of the network I manage and sole user of the service.
1 - Team viewer is easy to use so you don't need a super technical person to be effective with the service. As long as they understand the basics of remote access, they can use team viewer easily.

Evaluating TeamViewer and Competitors

  • Product Features

  • Product Reputation
  • Prior Experience with the Product
I've used team viewer in previous jobs and was always impressed with the service. I decided to start using it for my business and never looked back.
I wouldn't change my process. I'm happy with my decision.

TeamViewer Support

I've never needed to use their support as the service just works and works well.
No. I do not need support at this time since the service just works and works well.
Never needed to use the support service.

Using TeamViewer

It's very user friendly and secure. The controls are simple and easy to understand. My only gripe is sometimes it connects and passes the remote audio through, which I do not want or need.
  • Setting up unattended remote access
  • Transferring files
  • Monitoring systems
  • Multi monitor support through the mobile app
Yes - It's pretty good but takes getting used to. The pinch to zoom and pan are a much different experience but once you learn it it's pretty good.
