Overall Satisfaction with TIBCO Spotfire

We use Spotfire in order to display a large amount of data in a user-friendly and [fast] way. This is the key of our product: visualization with data rows from 2M to 5M that load information in less than 50 seconds. We are starting to work with Predictive and R, but we are very excited about the benefits we can get with this platform. [It is] a very intuitive developer platform, and not so complex but powerful enough for most of the things. Many solutions out there have the power too, but they are not user friendly or cost effective.
  • Web player data visualization. They are pretty fast with low server requirements.
  • Visualization needs to be from this age. They look sometimes like Office 95. Maybe embedded the Jviz D3 visualization, or integration with Google visualizations.
  • Microsoft BI
Microsoft learning curve is too high compared to Spotfire.
It is good, but I just use simple SQL server, so I don't have to get much information.
Sometimes it's really complex to provide others the information we have to share with them, so I prefer most of the time to send print screens.
  • Fastest visualization tool, it have more administrative tools
  • Webplayer portal is fast and a great way to manage dashboard library
  • Online training
  • in-person training
Personally, I got in person training seven or eight years ago, but after that everything has been under online youtube training, reading version control features and so on.
It is a very fast learning curve, you can do simple stuff immediately, and complicated stuff in a week. It introduces you to several worlds that are optional. For example, you can make calculations from the database using data direct database connection (like most of the visualization tools on this segment), or you can do it on the application itself, or send it to a R server using python script. In my personal case, maybe 90% is done on the visualization itself, so it´s faster for the user. The side part is that this way requires [you] to load all data on the visualization and not only aggregated columns.
We did not make integration with any platform itself, all integration is done on backend using database tools. However, we did use some tools inside Spotfire to make our life easier. It wasn't so hard compared to other platforms and even with the Spotfire version update, that are quite often, we didn't have to make any major change in our code in the last 2 to 3 years.

Do you think Spotfire delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Spotfire's feature set?

Yes

Did Spotfire live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Spotfire go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Spotfire again?

Yes

It's less appropriate if data is not set for performance. If the data table is not set to be rows, but more columns, it is a pain to use it on Spotfire. It behaves excellently if data load fast enough. It can manage itself as a stand-alone platform but can also be integrated with others. One visualization of one variable to analyze, this is the rule on Spotfire visualizations. More than that, most of the time, is not possible.
