Overall Satisfaction with Todoist

I mostly used Todoist for my personal work to keep track of important items that needed to be completed, organize tasks, and keep track of different projects. There was a short time where I used Todoist to collaborate with others, but ultimately I found that the product worked better for me for my personal projects as opposed to team projects.
  • Organizes tasks into separate projects
  • Creating sub-tasks and breaking down big todos into smaller, bite-sized items
  • Premium subscription required to get some of the most important features, like reminders
  • Team functionality doesn't work as well as other project management systems
  • Saved me at least a few hours in project planning and personal time management
  • The integration with other tools (like Google Calendar) saved additional time and streamlined my time management
I've also used Google Tasks, Things 3, and Microsoft To Do. Ultimately I went with Todoist for a few reasons. The natural language processing is the biggest game changer because it saves me from having to set a bunch of options for recurring, dates, projects, etc. I also found that there was enough structure in Todoist to make it easy to understand while being flexible enough to not be locked into a particular project management style. I found the others to be either too flexible (like Things 3) or too rigid (like Any.do) to be useful.
I haven't had to contact support with Todoist, which to me is a sign that they've created a good enough product that I don't need to contact their support. Beyond that, their tutorials and support documents are robust, particularly in onboarding onto the app. Overall, the support is solid.

In my experience, Todoist works really well as an individual todo app for personal or work projects. The ability to break out tasks into different projects is really helpful. The interface also gives some flexibility to use projects in different ways. For example, things I need to do every day are in a recurring daily project, while I also have scheduled items over a period of time in another project, and an untimed shopping list in another project. All of those co-exist easily within Todoist. I also find the scheduling really easy, so tasks to cancel subscriptions or inquire about certain projects or task become a "set-it-and-forget-it" routine, which is really convenient.

I am disappointed that some of the more essential features - like setting reminders for tasks - are locked behind the premium subscription. I also found that team-oriented features to be less useful. In particular, there is no hierarchy or separation of tasks when they're assigned in a team project. So I had a subordinate assigning due dates for my tasks and marking off other tasks without any control on my part. I found that interfered with my project planning processes and was ultimately unhelpful.
