Overall Satisfaction with Tricentis Tosca

Tricentis Tosca was used as an initiative to modernize our quality assurance department. We wanted to simplify test automation and roll out something more simple for users. It was used on a high-visibility project with web and java and we were able to rapidly automate the required performant test suite.
  • Rapid automation
  • Ease of use
  • Good to get test requirement
  • Exploratory testing
  • Integration
  • Meta data tracking
  • Advanced automation
  • out of the box automation
  • Shift left
  • Rapid automation
  • Faster exploratory reporting
  • faster testing cycles
Tricentis Tosca will be great to automate rapidly. It is well structured and you will be able to automate faster. The only blocker is when you are not able to automate something with Tricentis Tosca, maybe 2% of the time. You then have less flexibility to code a workaround like you could in other tools. There is an alternative way of doing automation when you don't recognize an object such as finding the object in relation to another object on the page. The way you can recognize objects is advanced and is one of my favorite features of the tool. The tutorials make the usability of the tool easy. Without a tutorial, it would be hard to get into it.
Tricentis Tosca helped us with reducing the need for manual testing. We were able to roll out some of our manual testers to automated testers with Tricentis Tosca. Manual testing still remains but is less now. Risk coverage analysis in theory seems very good but it becomes very tedious to manage it. We still got back to adding more emphasis on testing what we felt was riskier.
Tricentis Tosca is better as the first testing tool to introduce in a news organization. I believe it's the testing tool that is the easiest to introduce and adopt. It is oriented toward manual testers that would like to start automation but it is less oriented toward automation testers with experience. While it may help increase the speed of delivery, it may remove flexibility that automated testers may have had with other tools. Test management is less complete than with ALM. It beats UFT codeless testing. It automates more technologies than webdriverIO, selenium, etc.

Do you think Tricentis Tosca delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Tricentis Tosca's feature set?

Yes

Did Tricentis Tosca live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Tricentis Tosca go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Tricentis Tosca again?

Yes

A scenario where Tricentis Tosca is performant. Web automation, throw-away scripts, exploratory testing. Excellent for testing a scenario with different parameters, limit testing. Excellent to duplicate and change tests rapidly. Excellent to quickly analyze an already automated test. Good for reporting. Great tutorials/certifications to get users up to speed! A scenario where Tricentis Tosca is less performant. Integration can be costly. Test management is harder to do than in ALM for example. It's harder to track certain things due to the lack of metadata on certain artifacts.

Using Tricentis Tosca

10 - They were manual testers, automation testers and some functional people tried it. Someone even used test script to start automate business process but this was stopped after some time. In general, it is mostly the manual testers that started using it and adopting it. I think it is pretty geared toward testing team. There is a potential usage for business process automation but other tools do this better.
2 - We have 2 super users that help other testers on the team. These 2 people took most certifications and are doing the governance, modernization of the tool, process and team. They are also the main contact with the support team and will open ticket or ask the team in case of complexes technical challenges with a test.
  • test automation
  • exploratory testing
  • limit case testing
  • Provide confidence in the product
  • For business process automation
  • For gathering testing requirement
  • Exploratory testing
  • Automate daily tasks
  • Integrate tests from different applications
  • automation of administrative tasks
  • recurrent schedule testing
We aim to renew Tosca for our organization. What we lose in license cost is gained by having employee that do not need programming background. We also recoup a lot of the cost on the rapidity of automation. Only the support we might not use as much. I believe Tosca is here to stay at our organization

Evaluating Tricentis Tosca and Competitors

  • Product Features
  • Product Reputation
We purchased Tosca on the basis that automation would be easier and delivered faster. This is the reputation we had and it did deliver on theses aspects. Manual testers were able to adopt the tool easily due to the tutorial and automate redundant tests. In the end the return on investment was there.
One thing we did not take into account when evaluating the tool was the number of hours we would need for support. I wouldn't go overboard with support hours. I'd buy more if required afterwards. Another thing to take into account is that integration for Tosca can be very pricy. Tosca should be used on it's own and trying to integrate it with other testing tools might be a money pit.

Tricentis Tosca Support

Tricentis team was very supportive. Support is expensive but they helped us at many level. Setting up timeline, implementation, precise questions on automation challenges. We had an account manager and technical people we could as to talk to. Support was generally timely and helping. They often proposed to come on site to help us which would cost more but could be helpful.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required
Support cares about my success
Quick Initial Response
None
We did purchase premium support tot guarantee the success of the tool but in the end we purchased more than we needed and end up wasting a bit of hours. we used the remaining hours for normal user support when they have challenge with automation. Overall we are satisfied of the support we got.
Not really, Tricentis support did a great job overall but there was no exceptional support.
