Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery

We use a Unitrends virtual appliance at our company to back up our entire virtual environment, all VMs. The user interface is pretty intuitive and the deduplication allows a lot of historic backups to be stored.
  • Ease of use.
  • Reliability of backups.
  • Restore options.
  • Better and easier removeable drive options for manual off site backups.
  • Faster recovery times.
  • More failsafe prompts to prevent overwriting existing VMs upon restore.
  • Saved us from data loss a few times.
  • Recovery of individual files and full VMs.
  • Reliable backups.

Veeam seems like a decent product which may cost a little more, Dell EMC Networker is a good product, but the interface is very clunky and difficult to navigate, while also being a much more expensive solution. I believe they are all good products. Based on reviews, functionality and cost, we went with Unitrends and it hasn't failed us.
Dell EMC Networker, Veeam Backup & Replication, Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
I would strongly recommend Unitrends based on its ability and ease of use and value. It is a professional, inexpensive backup product with good support. Fairly easy to set up and maintain. I like the hardware flexibility in using the virtual appliance as well as the cost savings. I feel it is well suited for mid to large size companies with 5 or more servers to back up.

Using Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery

1 - I am the Director of IT here and I decide which products to use and use them myself.
1 - The interface is fairly user friendly and simple to setup. Technical background is recommended, for setup and use, but I almost want to say it is simple enough to be used by non technical staff if needed.
  • Reliability.
  • Availability.
  • Usability.
  • Cost.
  • Running the virtual appliance on a decent but older server.
  • Backing up all our VMs.
  • Ability to restore individual files from VM backups.
  • Add offsite cloud.
  • Add offsite DR appliance.
  • Upgrade hardware that it runs on.
Very likely to renew the license, but only after reviewing current options and pricing of other products.

Evaluating Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery and Competitors

Yes - Company was using a dated version of Symantec backup exec and tapes. I wanted to get away from tape and have less user intervention needed.

Was a very good combination of price, features, and reputation. Budget was limited and that was unfortunately the primary driver, but Unitrends did not disappoint.
I would do the same, narrow down to 3 vendors, get demos of each, compare pricing and go with the best all around product.
