Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery backs up our primary servers only. The cost per megabyte is too high to back up all of our PCs. Backups are kept on site (we don't use the cloud). We have replication going to a separate facility that we own. We also use the archive device to copy backups to hard drives that can be removed from the main facility.
  • Automation backup schedule
  • Speed of backup
  • Speed of recovery
  • Complication of navigating the user interface
  • Frequent backup problems on client servers (errors)
  • Frequent updates to install
  • The security of disaster recovery is important, and Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery helps us
  • We went with cheaper alternatives for less important data
  • The large cost keeps us from utilizing Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery in a larger capacity

Do you think Unitrends delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Unitrends's feature set?

Yes

Did Unitrends live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Unitrends go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Unitrends again?

Yes

Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is a better backup solution than Synology DS, but much more expensive. We utilize both in our company. Synology DS has a great backup software called Active Backup for Business that is very easy to use and includes deduplication. The cost per TB is much much less than Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery.
For a large data center with multiple servers, Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery does well. Deduplication works well. On the downside, the cost per megabyte compared to alternative backups is high. The user interface is complicated to use at first. Tech support needs to be called at times to learn functionality that changes between updates.

Relationship with Unitrends, a Kaseya company

Unitrends employees communicate well and are not too pushy.
The vendor did adjust the price for upgrades, which helped on the cost.
Be patient. Don't rush into a buying decision.

Upgrading Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery

Yes - Software releases have mostly installed smoothly. They seem to be well-tested and often have new features. On the downside, they may also change the user interface significantly, which can be good or bad. Hardware upgrades have been very good and often have saved money in the long run.
  • Hardware upgrade gave us much more space, which we were running out of
  • Software upgrades have not been hugely beneficial
  • We always hope for new and better features.
