Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance

This product is used to backup the whole environment. It was easy to deploy and has been easy to support. We regularly need to do restores and this has not failed in meeting our needs.
  • Easy to deploy agent.
  • Easy setup and scheduling of backups.
  • Quick and efficient options to do restores.
  • We have had some replication issues with the cloud and found out after opening a ticket it was a known [issue] - so better communication on outages.
  • Support on Linux solutions is not documented well but provided enough to allow us to get the non-Windows devices setup.
  • The bare-metal restore and support of it is a little quirky but it works and wish it was a little better.
  • With a second device and offsite replication, we have addressed a DR requirement.
  • We restore often for user issues and this has failed us
  • Only issues to note have been replication to cloud and unannounced outage or maintenance windows (no communication to customer).
We actually have a couple of solutions but the Unitrends tool is used on all our servers. It has proved to be a valuable resource in our support stack.

Well suited for Windows backups and restores. We have had some issues with Linux and other operating systems but it has met or exceeded the need.

Speed and efficiency are key and it does this and has been very effective. We replaced a tape library that was problematic and inconsistent so this is leaps and bounds above that older technology.

Evaluating Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance and Competitors

Yes - We replaced a tape library backup system that was undersized and outdated.The goal was to put in place a system that can grow with us and meet our needs to backup and restore as well as meet an audit requirement for DR or offsite storage.

We had the opportunity to speak to a few current users on some products we were comparing and then got to see it in action. The cloud replication was a bonus that met a future audit goal and the price was in the upper end of the budget but still fit.
The goals would not change. I might actually buy the next unit up since we have grown over time but the product works as designed.

It is easy to plug-in and start using.

Change management was minimal - We were replacing a solution that did not work so change management was really a non-issue. We did roll-out the agent in pieces so we could understand and gauge impact.
  • Early version had a backup issue with Debian Linux. We could only get full backups.
  • Had some replication to cloud issues but resolved them after a few days.
