Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
Our Unitrends Appliance Is utilized throughout our organization. We use it for all of our backup and disaster recovery, one issue we had was the ability to offsite data easily and efficiently without needing a lot of user interaction. With this Appliance we have been able to offload not only to a physically connected device elsewhere in another building but also to tapes that can be stored offsite and another office that is remote and connected only by VLAN.
Pros
- Data Replication and Dedublication
- SQL Backups
- Hyper-V Backups
- Microsoft Exchange Backups and Email restores
Cons
- The Web interface can sometime be quirky especially if the windows is resized after login
- When backups don't complete successfully there is no easy way to retry them from the error screen
- Some error messages on failures could be a little more intuitive
- Recovery from user accidental deletion
- Recovery From Database errors
- Recovery from inadvertently deleted emails
- Recovery from files corrupted by application
- Symantec Backup Exec and Acronis Backup & Recovery
These other appliance have always been difficult to use and setup, and even more difficult to recover from. We have used Unitrends many times for many restores as well as set the appliance up a few different times for other offices that we work, with and the setup procedure is extremely easy especially when assisted by their installation team. I always like working with Unitrends support as well because the service is always fast and they always resolve the problem quickly, sometimes even before I realize there is a problem, like a drive failing.
