Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
We use a Unitrends appliance for our backups. Initially we had a mix of mostly physical boxes and a few virtuals. Overtime, we've gone to almost all virtual machines, with only a couple physicals left. Unitrends handles both very well, and made the transition much nicer. I've never had any real issues, and I do not like to babysit backups. All I need to do is have a fast look at my daily backup report each morning to make sure everything went fine, which is always the case.
- It's mostly hands off, once set.
- Disaster recovery, especially with VMware is a no brainer.
- I like to be able to spin a VM up on the Unitrends appliance itself if I wish.
- With the new interface most of my little complains disappeared. I did not care for the flash interface -- so I am happy about the change.
- I wish good options for replicating data were cheaper.
- I try to rely on backups as a last resort, so I have only had to do one disaster recovery job. And it worked perfectly.
I've used many of the older style backup software products over the years (Symantec, Arcserve etc). This is in a whole different league. This is the first of this type I have used. I did a lot of research, and at the time Unitrends covered all my bases. I also appreciated the strong community presence on Spiceworks - it helped my decision making process, and support has been impeccable.
Would I choose Veeam now that I am mostly virtual? I don't know. Probably not, since I have not had any problems or found any real limitations.
