Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
The Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance is used to support our entire county. It is our backup and recovery device for all of our data for 25 departments of the county. When data is lost for whatever the reason, we can lean on our backups to recover with quickness and ease.
Pros
- Taking a bare metal backup provides us with the ability to restore an entire server very quickly.
- Unlike a tape situation, all backups are on the device and are easy to restore from, whether it is differential or full.
- Having to support 62 servers and 34 SQL servers, the ability to complete backups within the evening timeframe is never an issue.
Cons
- The device works well but it would be great if firmware updates did not remove our license.
- Support is slow to return calls and escalation is slow when one engineer cannot resolve a problem.
- The county has been attacked by ransomware several times. Our backups had our back every time.
- We have had to suddenly move a physical server to a virtual server due to hardware failure. We took a bare metal backup and restored that to a VM with no problem.
- Negative - we had a corrupt database on our system which caused loss of weeks of backups on our appliance. That put us in a vulnerable place for a period.
The word is speed. Unitrends is fast to perform the backups with few or any failures.
