Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance

We replaced our Backup Exec solution with a Unitrends Recovery Appliance. It has been a great fit for us. It is much easier to use. I was able to improve my RTO by moving to the Unitrends. My recovery process is much faster and I actually trust it to take my backups.

Pros

  • System Recovery. Moving from Backup Exec (BE), I found the process to recover a machine MUCH easier than with the BE solution.
  • I like that the system is an all in one type backup solution. I don't have to worry about additional media (tapes).

Cons

  • The new UI still does not incorporate all the features from the previous versions.
  • While possible, setting up backups on folders housed on the same server that require different recovery objectives can be a bit clunky.
  • Unitrends has given met the peace of mind that if one of my servers crashes, I will have a backup to recover from.
Unitrends takes the system recovery cake. However, Backup Exec's file backups are very easy to use and set up. When I was looking for a new solution, the system recovery aspect was more important to me that the file backups.
It is great for people who are both physical and virtual. I think there are better solutions for each but Unitrends does a great job of providing support for both setups. If you are 100% virtual, this device might not be as good of a deal but will still work just fine!
