Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliance
I have been using the Unitrends backup appliance for over 11 years to keep our data safe not only from the day to day accidents but the possibility of catastrophic data loss. We use the appliance to not only back up our data but for two other organizations that share our facility. We have added several features which not only protect on-site data but externally as well. We have an archive unit that allows me to take the data off site nightly in case of a failure and we have added the cloud portion of the unitrends backup so that way we satisfy the grandfather father son rule. Any administrator that backs up their data knows that data loss is the one thing that keeps them up at night. Unitrends provides me more sleep than all the top sleep aids available at your local pharmacy.
- Several things that the Unitrends device does well is compression of data. On some of my servers I have been able to keep retention way beyond our original goals set.
- Another thing that the Unitrends does well is the speed at which the backups are performed. I am able to back up my entire network nightly because of the ability to stream across multiple network connections and also multiple servers at the same time.
- In all the years that I have been using the unitrends device I have NEVER not been able to recover a lost file. With that said the speed of recovery compared to tape is literally night and day. Meaning that I can recover files in just a few minutes where as with tape it would take all night and day!
- Having the ability to take drives offsite is a key feature for us. It has been something we always made sure was part of our disaster recover plans. Some would think that the backups are fine on their own done locally but being in this industry for as many years as I have been I know the dangers of fire, water, and the inevitable disgruntled employee! Being able to take drives offsite and also have redundant backups in the cloud gives us complete peace of mind and makes our tenants feel good about their data
- The Unitrends backup appliance has really been the showtime rotisserie oven of my network. I pretty much set it and forget it. Backups are always done perfectly and come out tender.
- One of the best components of the Unitrends backup device is the people that support it. Never in my almost 30 years in this industry worked with a more professional, knowledgeable, and friendly support staff. I have never had to wait for someone to call me back and someone is always there to answer a phone. Hands down the top feature of this product.
- I could have gone on and on about the positives of the unitrends appliance and even now I am remembering more and more good things I could have said in the last question. There is only a couple of things I think that could be improved and people have been saying it for many many moons. The interface could use something a little more windows interfaceish. The other thing is that I have noticed terminology being changed from one screen to the next. Not a huge deal but can be confusing to someone who is using the device for the first time.
- There are no negative impacts on our organization using the Unitrends device.
- I have used the unitrends device to recover individual files lost by users, servers because of disc failures, servers because of malware or ransomeware, and desktops that I just thought it would be cool to show people how the baremetal product works.
It took me exactly 1 year from the time I first saw unitrends till the day we made the purchase. I selected Unitrends for one reason and one reason only. It works every single time.
