Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Availability Suite

Veeam Availability Suite as our backup and availability software has helped us to have better backup management of all our data center infrastructure, not only because of its easy management but for all the features it has like instant recovery and DR capabilities. They definitely gave us a lot of value as a company for IT administration.
Mainly for the IT area, it has helped us to have critical servers and applications backed up, however for the other end-user areas such as Sales, Marketing and Directory it has helped to solve the management of user-level backups as much as desktops and laptops.
Veeam's management solution has managed to consolidate all the backups of the corporation, both users and servers.
  • Easy to manage. The Veeam console is very rich in its environment, while being very simple and intuitive to use. It is very robust and stable for virtualized environments.
  • Rapid deployment. The installation of the solution components can be done in less than a day. The native interaction with the main hypervisors makes the solution in production very fast.
  • Good brand support. On the after-sales side, Veeam support has a considerable Net Promoter Score, greater than +70 which reflects satisfactory support.
  • Great compatibility ecosystem. It has long stably supported VMware and Hyper-V, but very quickly has aligned itself to Hyperconvergence solutions like Nutanix and its Acropolis AHV hypervisor in a very stable way.
  • Unattended upgrades. The platform updating tasks still have to be done manually. It would be very valuable if in the future it has one click upgrade or automatic programming of upgrades.
  • Reports and notifications. Veeam Suite availability natively does not have all the reporting environment. It is necessary to acquire another solution called Veeam One, separate licensing.
  • Multiple user management. There are only administrator profiles for Veeam console management, it would be nice to have read-only or operator profiles.
  • Multi-cloud integration. Currently, the integration for backups scale out is integrated only to AWS and Azure, other clouds such as Google Cloud Platform or others are not supported yet.
  • OPEX costs requires that the solution administrator be trained in topics such as virtualization such as VMware and software-defined datacenter concepts.
  • Licensing the solution, by requiring the infrastructure cores to be licensed, for hyperconverged environments with nodes with many CPUs, usually increases the cost.
  • Considerable TCO, Veeam manages to cover the backup management and control layer, but it is necessary to acquire other components such as storage NAS, Tapes and Cloud repositories, the storage layer is not contemplated within Veeam.
  • HYCU Backup & Recovery for Nutanix, Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery and Veritas Backup Exec
A Veeam differentiator with the different vendors was its agility in management and its native integration to the Vmware hypervisor, Hyper-v and Nutanix Acropolis. Also a feature that positions it as a good option for backups, is that it includes the ability to backup the data of users such as laptops and desktops thanks to its agent. On the reliability side, you can make copies of backups from one repository to another at a remote location, as well as to the S3 cloud for archiving.

Veeam support is good and the Net Promoter Score of +70 says so. However, in many cases the problems come from the hypervisor side or generation of snapshots that do not depend on Veeam and can corrupt the backup data. In general, the Veeam support does a good follow-up until determining the root problem and proceeding with the necessary remediation.

Do you think Veeam Backup & Replication delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Veeam Backup & Replication's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Backup & Replication live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Backup & Replication go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Backup & Replication again?

Yes

Very good performance to generate backups and restorations in virtualized environments. It's very agile and mature in solutions with VMWare and Hyper-V. For HCI infrastructure like Nutanix, it is also a very good option. As an alternative to disaster recovery scenarios and alternate data centers, it manages to integrate and consolidate the data center as a single large entity. In the case of managing a large corporation, it simplifies the management of backup and replication data.
