Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
I use Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 to securely back up Office 365 to another location for our entire company. It backs up email, OneDrive, and SharePoint data.
Pros
- Easy to use interface.
- Restoring small amounts of data is quick. Faster than M365's Compliance process.
- Minimal resources needed, depending on workload, and can run on Windows 10.
Cons
- Adding additional licenses requires a new annual subscription or an extension of an existing subscription for another year.
- Haven't had to do any real-world data recovery yet so I am not cognizant of what the ROI will be. Since the data is being backed up outside of O365, it will be of enormous value if O365 ever experiences a catastrophic failure.
I attended a security training where one of the issues pointed out was the level of support Microsoft offers for Office 365. Although O365 has built-in redundancy as a cloud system, I needed more local, granular control of our email data.
We have benefited from data not being lost, but from a director overlooking a particular email. It was quicker to find and copy the message using Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 than to use Microsoft's Compliance system.
Yes, when someone could not find a file in their mailbox, we were able to easily find the file with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and restore it to the Veeam systems desktop, and copy/paste and re-send the file to the end user.
I love how easy it is to use. This makes monitoring of daily backups easy to see if it succeeded and how much data was backed up. I also love the different restoration options. This helps satisfy customer wants by being able to provide them the files they need in the way they want.
