Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365
We use VBfMO365 to backup our entire O365 suite, including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. While we do not expect Microsoft's cloud services to disappear on us, we know they won't help us recover deleted files discovered long after they went missing. That's why we keep our own backups.
- VBfMO365 integrates with our existing Veeam backups of VMware.
- I can dump search results to a PST.
- You can see *all* e-mail, and this means the app must be treated as a tier-0 trust item.
- It includes public folders.
- Searching is not fast.
- Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive data is in there, but it's hard to find.
- You must have Outlook installed on your management computer to export a PDF. There may be licensing issues if you're using a privileged access workstation, which you definitely should be with this kind of view of all comms.
- I've figured out why a long-departed project manager made some decisions that vexed current management -- the e-mails with the client told the story.
- High quality backups in multiple locations, like life insurance, are best appreciated after a bad event. We haven't had ours yet but we'll be ready.
I follow best practice guidelines, and they all say there's a 3-2-1 rule with backups. I needed that second location.
This is true, to the extent that I've used the product (i.e. to search for data from some old mailboxes of former employees). I used PST files to ingest those e-mails back to their managers.
I've used the export as PST but that's it. Note that it requires Outlook installed on the computer from where you manage the restore.
I like that it's affordable, includes public folders and integrates well with our existing Veeam investment.
I am a Veeam fan -- they keep improving, and they changed the world's expectations for how backups should work. After what they've enabled us to do with VMware, it was easy to trust them with O365.
