Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
Veeam Backup & Replication is being used to backup all the virtual servers in the organization. It allows us to get a full image of the server, meaning we can restore the entire server in a few hours if needed.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- NAS filers
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware

- Image Backups. Veeam is more reliable than all our previous vendors that supported image backups.
- Copy to Cloud. Veeam has a built-in ability to copy backups to the cloud and it works really well.
- Restoring files. Restoring files is really easy, and it also has the ability to automatically spin up VMs from their backups and test to make sure they boot successfully.
- Copy to USB/Offsite. It works differently than all other programs in that it keeps a specific number of restore points instead of just copying the current backup files and is basically a new chain of backup files.
- SQL Authentication. It works well, but only allows specifying 1 account for authentication even though SQL servers may have multiple databases each with separate authentication.
We are currently backing up all of our 8 virtual servers with Veeam Backup & Replication. We wouldn't have it any other way, as Veeam is such a better backup solution than what we were previously using.
- Veeam is not cheap. Our previous backup software was a 1-time purchase, whereas we are using a monthly subscription for licensing Veeam.
- Veeam has reduced the number of backup failures compared to our previous backup solution, so it has helped reduce the number of hours spent monthly just fixing backup issues.
When we were replacing a bunch of servers a couple of years ago, it was going to require purchasing new licensing for backup software. We had heard good things about Veeam Backup & Replication, so we decided to try it out and ended up purchasing their backup solution. The backup process is a lot more reliable now, with less time spent fixing backup failures.
We are using Veeam B&R to copy our backups to the cloud. It works fairly seamlessly for what we need. It's nice to know that the server backups are stored in an offsite location completely separate from our main facility, so any disasters won't affect our backups.
We are not using the NAS backup ability as we don't have any file shares on a NAS.
