Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We use Veeam B&R in our whole organization to minimize downtimes and ensure service quality.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Fast backups because of change block tracking and storage snapshots.
- Almost incredible fast restores with instant recovery.
- Application-agnostic or application-aware backup.
- No need to install agents on virtual machines.
- Fast and easy setup, "It just works."
- Improve central management (connect one backup shell to more than one B&R server).
Difficult to say as I don't know all internals of the departments which are using Veeam, I'd say we're protecting about 2.000 - 2.500 VMs. And, our O365 environment is also backed up with Veeam.
This is more than expected since we started with Veeam in one department, but quickly saw that it was useful for other departments, too.
- It eases backup and recovery processes.
- It helps fulfilling our SLAs.
We were just impressed by the capabilities of Veeam in comparison with our old, agent-based solution. And, experience shows that it was and is a good decision.
We're not using cloud-based backup in the moment, but are maybe planning to add cloud-storage as capacity tier in the future. It's good to know that Veeam supports this.
No, as we're not really use NAS very widely we have not used this yet.
Evaluating Veeam Backup & Replication and Competitors
Yes - We replaced EMC Networker because of Veeam's capabilities to back up and restore virtual machines.
- Product Features
- Product Usability
Veeam is quite easy to setup and manage, and it offers more flexibility than other backup solutions (for example Cohesity) because of its storage agnostic approach.
We would maybe evaluate some more products, but I'm quite sure that in the end we would choose Veeam.

There was a big problem with our storage infrastructure a couple of years ago which affected the productional and also the backup storages.
I called Veeam, and the engineer spent many hours in a deep debug session with me to solve the problem and help us.
Another story was about P2V restore which I was trying in a Lab environment when I ran into some problems, and also this was not a productive but "only" a Lab environment Veeam support treated it as a real problem and we manage to solve it at last.
