Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Use Veeam [Backup & Replication] to backup 2 sites worth of VMs and replicate to DR site which is off site.

Currently all backups are done using Veeam [Backup & Replication] along with all restores.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
  • NAS filers
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • DR Capabilites of spinning up replicated VMs instantly
  • Exploring application items such as databses or Exchange items
  • Automatically setup of DR recovery when VM fails
  • Setup of proxies and best practices isn't explained greatly
  • Slow termination of jobs
50 virtual servers are currently protected by Veeam [Backup & Replication].

This has grown since initially installing Veeam and there has been no issues in scaling up to meet this demand.
  • Data Retention
  • Easy data recovery
  • DR day has changed entirely and lessened work load for testing
I was a new employee and didn't think the current backup solution was appropriate for the protection needed.

Using Veeam for 2 years prior I pitched it to manager to move over and DR days have dramatically shortened from full weekends to just get servers moved to now being able all to do it in the push of a button.
Currently moving to Microsoft 365 and have bought Veeam 365 licenses, however we do not use Cloud workloads currently.
Currently use CIF shares on NAS to hold offsite Backups.
All scenarios have a use for Veeam Backup and Replication if data security and retention is a worry for your business
