Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use [Veeam] Backup & Replication as a department, but backing up organization data as a whole.

This solves the need to store physical backups. We used to have physical tape drives that we would have to send off to Recall. With the pandemic, going into the office was not allowed.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • NAS filers
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Restoring backups are very simple and the GUI is well thought out.
  • Great support and user community
  • The Scale Out Repository setup could be simplified or more intuitive.
We started out only backing up necessary data. Since using the product we have now licensed all our hosts to backup everything.
  • Sense of security
  • Reliability
  • Ease of access
COVID made us change our backup solution. As well as the need for evolving technology.
It absolutely has. We can now restore to any point in time from our cloud backups without the need for getting tapes out of recall, waiting for them to be delivered, etc. We can now deliver faster restores for the company.
We currently don't use this feature.
As described earlier, with the pandemic hitting, we used to backup to tape, then send our tapes off to Recall. It was a very clunky process and not very efficient. The need to get backups offsite without a manual process was a requirement with COVID and not being able to be in the building. It offloads backups to Azure (in our case) very efficiently.
