Veeam [Backup & Replication] is the company-wide solution for Data-Backup to ensure creating primary-backups, copy-backup in second hosting area and offsite-backups on tape.
It is mainly used by the it-administration-team and the hotline/service-desk.
We use it for every possible use case like backup entire vms, special datastores, databases, physical servers and special workstations.

- For restore of sharepoint-data you need a specific staging-databasehost. We faced the fact, that we wanted to restore and couldn't, cause we hadn't such a system. Maybe its possible to integrate some function to Veeam to do it without another system.

We are backing up ~450 virtual systems (linux/unix & windows) and about 30 workstations.
This includes active directory, microsoft sql, microsoft exchange, microsoft sharepoint, OracleDB, Filesystems and random servers.
We are a growing company and we use Veeam for every new relevant system.
One of our next steps might be the integration of ms azure to our infrastructure,
where we also want to use Veeam as backup-tool.
- We are an public provider. in this position we don't aim for ROI. But we aim for customer satisfaction which is raised extremely. This is caused by much shorter restore-times.
The discussion was made before i started my job in this company.
But I experienced the last days of our old tool data-protector, which was a mess.
It had no expanded logical features to interact with specific workloads like sql, sharepoint, and such stuff.
As far as I noticed to restore a sql-db we had do restore the files and moving/integrating them to sql-server by hand.
Veeam is taking care of this steps, making it much more easy to use while providing the safety of doing less mistakes.
We arent using any cloud-provider yet,
but we are aiming for it in the future.
We have lots of unstructured data from our customers.
Veeam offers the function to index all this data on specific systems.
This makes restores much more easier, cause the customer sometimes misses data, but has no clue where they were stored.
Veeam searches over all indexed data. That helps the hotline-team a lot.
