Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam B&R for the whole organization to make replicas of the production servers. These replicas are stored on a different physical server, so we can have our production services running within minutes in case we lose our main physical server.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • NAS filers
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Replication on a separate physical host to have a disaster recovery plan always ready.
  • Retention policy with rotational backups.
  • We didn't find any problems with our installation. The process is mostly straightforward.

Yes

Currently, two virtual servers are replicated in a separate physical host, different from the production one. This serves as a disaster recovery in case we lose our main physical server and our production services.
  • We have replicas of our production servers, so it's positive to have them in case those production servers go down.
  • It covers the need to follow the 3-2-1 backup model.
The main reason we decided to install Veeam Backup & Replication was to have a disaster recovery plan. We also decided to install VB&R because our infrastructure doesn't require more than ten workloads, which means we can use the Community Edition without a paid subscription, a very important aspect. Before installing VB&R, we were exposed to a failure from our main physical server and lost our production services all at once.
We don't use cloud capabilities.

Every scenario where you have physical or virtual workloads is a scenario where Veeam B&R is suited for a backup or replication plan. If your infrastructure doesn't need more than 10 workloads, you even have the option to install the community edition at zero cost.

Using Veeam Backup & Replication

1 - Information technologies skills
  • Replication of production servers.
  • Disaster recovery plan.
  • Restoration of recent backups.
  • Making replicas of our production server on a different physical server to have a disaster recovery plan.
  • Maybe for some physical computer backups.
It is the most complete backup solution we have used thus far.
