Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam has proven to be a fairly intuitive backup software that is much easier to use than some competing products. The software is user-friendly and is incredibly helpful in file recovery situations that require fast resolution. Our company replaced an outdated software with Veeam and are pleased with the results that we have seen even in just a few months we have been using their service.

Veeam Back & Replication is our enterprise-wide backup product. We use it to backup all of our production servers, running Windows and Linux. We also use it to backup Oracle and SQL Databases and a number of other applications that are critical to our organization's needs. Both locally and at our remote sites. We have recently implemented Cloud storage in which the ability to do so was included within our current pricing model
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • License portability as your environment needs change
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Quick Backups
  • Easy to configure
  • Good Support & Training modules
  • Better reporting for all jobs

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

approx 500 servers

This is about what we expected when we purchased the product which has changed incrementally over the last few years as we move to a cloud based environment and decommission old servers, we have had to increase our licencing number on 2 occasions previously

The compression of jobs has allowed us to increase this amount with our existing hardware
  • quick recovery model to recover critical systems
  • Application recovery such as Exchange, Active directory allows us to recover incorrectly deleted or quick returned staff
We used to use a couple of other solutions prior to veeam, these were direct to server or tape backups, they were clunky, slow and difficult to manage and took a lot of time to manage

Under Veeam the process is automated, the feature set has improved significantly over each version without additional costs

Experience before and after is night and day, Veeam has made backups managable and controllable
We have recently implemented our cloud functionality and will be looking to expand this to more devices in the coming weeks/months Overall setup was easy to do, however, on Blob storage having to use scale-out repositories rather than a standard copy over off a job seems an overly complicated and unnecessary way to do it, however once implemented the backup works well
File share backup solution is quick/simple however rarely used since we have implemented other tools such as shadow copies File restores in the past have recovered critical data due to accidental deletion or on one occasion a malware attack on our file server We were able to recover files quickly and efficiently to minimise loss of work for our staff
Had a number of server failures that we have used Veeam to restore, this has been a simple vm recovery process where downtime had to be kept to the minimum, and restores complete successfully and we were able to get back to production

Guest file restore while it is a common use, is easily overshadowed (no pun intended) by shadow copies, an integrated solution into windows file servers with the same features would be interesting too see
