Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam Backup and Replication for backing up various servers throughout the company. We currently backup over 15 servers on a continuous schedule multiple times per day. It handles Domain Controllers, File Servers, and numerous application severs. Most are virtual machines but some are also bare-metal. Different servers run on different schedules and number of snapshots is managed by the software to prevent the server from getting too full to work.

We currently backup 15 servers, it's more than we anticipated for sure. We found that since the software was so easy to use we went ahead and added servers to backup that werent part of the original scope of the project. I can't stress how easy this software is to configure and use on a live production environment.
  • We don't have hard numbers but we have restored a few times to fix viruses or bad configurations and it's saved us hours of time we would have spent rebuilding an environment.
We used to just have file-level backups that would send data to the cloud. We still have these but have added the redundancy of a snapshot server that runs Veeam Backup & Replication. The thing that drove us to this was that the file-level cloud backups can't actually restore a server completely back to a previous state. We had a catastrophic failure that resulted in rebuilding of an environment and we decided we could have saved a lot of time and money if we had snapshots to take care of these types of things. Enter Veaam Backup & Replication.
We don't use Veeam Backup and Replication for storage on the cloud. We currently use it locally for local backup.
We currently do not use the NAS and File-share backup for protecting unstructured data,
Veeam backup and Replication is a must have for any computer or server that you need to have copies of. The way it automaticallydeletes excess backups to save disk space is invaluable. It really is "set it and forget it" until you need to restore files or images.Veeam Backup and Replication probably isn't needed for saving a few files or choice folders. It can also be a resource hog so end users need to be mindful when installing it on an environment.
