Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We Use Veeam to backup VMware VM's and NAS Data Files for recovery or for testing before changes. We needed to have Data Retention and multiple options for recovery of Virtual machines with several restore point options so that we could recover from any disaster. I like how granular I can get for recovery
Pros
- Disaster Recovery with Failover and Fallback
- Immutable, Ransomware proof backups and threat detection while backing up
- Automated Backups for physical and virtual, cloud etc.
Cons
- Updated training videos. Some areas are not showing on my version vs what the training video shows.
- Maybe have a restore toolbars to default in case things get changed and a new person comes in and needs to figure certain items out that they can't find.
- Virtualized workloads
- NAS filers
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
I backup 6 ESXI hosts and 1 NAS at the Moment. I am looking at adding in some physical machines running Linux. When i first started it was just VMware backups. I have extended into the NAS and now need to add some Physical servers that we have added with acquisitions that to my knowledge are not being backed up.
- More Frequent backups automatically freeing up time for other projects and not having to worry about whether or not the data will be good
- I don't have to worry about backups, I check my daily backup logs to see the status and haven't had to do much since i resolved our space issue for backups. Pretty much set and forget other than random testing to validate data backed up.
We were on Veeam when i came to the company so I am not sure why they went to it. I do have one location i would like to add a new veeam backup server to handle the backups at a remote location. currently on a competitor software but working to get that changed due to the reliability and stability of Veeam
We currently are not using the Cloud.
This has saved me a few times. When i started our Shared NAS wasn't being backed up. Not sure why. I was able to get it added to the backup jobs and have since had to restore accidently deleted files from end users. The restore process was quick and easy. within a few minutes everything was backup and running
So much less convoluted and easier to validate and verity backup jobs. Diagnosing backup failures are much more robust with Veeam than the other.
