Overall Satisfaction with Vembu BDR Suite
We use Vembu BDR Suite across our company as our server and data backup solution. Vembu BDR Suite addresses all of our disaster recovery needs.
- Easy to manage backup and restore
- Centralized management solution
- Backup encryption
- Good versioning of files
- Web based layout can be tricky
- Licensing portal is cumbersome
- Backup alerts can be obnoxious
- Rest easy knowing data is backed up
- No reliance on third parties for backup
- No time spent troubleshooting backup scripts
We were looking for a robust disaster recovery suite with support for physical servers as well as virtual as our push moving forward was to virtualize more of our environment. The most important factor was cost of the solution versus what the solution offered. Vembu BDR Suite met and surpassed my requirements.
At the time of our search for a robust backup solution, we were also planning to begin migrating some services and servers to a virtual environment. We needed a solution that would fit not only our existing physical-based environment, but a mixed and eventually entirely virtualized environment too. Vembu BDR Suite fit this requirement.
We have benefited from the VembuHIVE file system via it's space-saving abilities as well as the added security of having our backed up data encrypted on both the BDR server and Offsite locations.
- Veeam Backup & Replication
The primary alternative to Vembu would be Veeam. This would be my second choice in a close race. If I remember correctly, Veeam only supported virtualized environments until just after my decision to go with Vembu. We had also previously tried Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager, which while it did work was overkill for our environment, and I think EOL now.
