Overall Satisfaction with Vertex

Vertex O is being used to tax our leasing transactions. The parent organization uses Avalara to tax. Vertex allows us to direct how the complex leasing transactions are taxed.

Pros

  • It is easy to find taxability categories that match our business - the descriptions are helpful to determine which to select.
  • The taxability analysis is helpful for determining how a particular transaction/product will tax in each state - we use it to supplement our tax research.
  • The xml files are easy to follow and helpful when using the transaction tester. This helps when trying to troubleshoot why we aren't getting the expected results.

Cons

  • Everything requires a click - it would be nice to be able to hit 'enter' to save or select.
  • Vertex takes the decisioning off the user and provides consistent responses reducing our potential audit impact.
  • Exemption certificate manager allows us to easily provide support to an auditor.

Since Vertex was compatible with our new ERP, Leasewave, it was the taxing solution that made the most sense to us. It was the most reliable option we had available and still is!

Vertex has rules and configurations specific to the leasing industry making it superior over Avalara.

Just right. Our products fit into the categories and are easy to map.
Over the years we have had a few instances where we weren't getting the tax results expected. The support has been great at times with clear answers on how to get the results we want; however, we are often faced with support not understanding our issue or how to fix it. When they are able to give a clear answer as to why our issue is occuring, it is wonderful!
  • Odessa's LeaseWave
Having Vertex assign the tax receipt type to our leases (UC, UR, ST) makes it so valuable for us. This takes the taxing decision off the individual user and makes it a consistent taxing machine.
