Overall Satisfaction with WatchGuard AuthPoint

We decided to use WatchGuard AuthPoint as it is one of the leading products for 2FA and we also are using the WatchGuard Firewalls. So it made sense to try their MFA product during our initial research and tests of MFA products. AuthPoint worked out well. We have a mixed Apple & Windows environment and employees traveling worldwide. AuthPoint works well with Apple Mac OS which was important to meet. Not every MFA provider works with Mac OS. Many of our staff travel and do not always have internet available so the Offline MFA option with a QR code is a great feature as well. Another business problem is that we need an easy process to get staff logged in if they forget their mobile phone or if they switch phones. Let's say they upgrade their phone overnight. They need to log back in in the morning and AuthPoint is quite easy to work with to provide them a new token to register or provide them an exception by the user sending a code to an Administrator to provide the code back. It has been easy to work with. Watchguard support team is always available to help. I have received the phone and email support and have been quite happy with the process.
  • Compatibility with Mixed Apple & Windows Environment.
  • Various authentication methods.
  • Fast authentication time.
  • Flexible setup.
  • Sync user accounts with Azure AD or LDAP.
  • Support cases response time could be improved. It is good to support, but I would like to see this time improve.
  • Integration with current Azure AD and LDAP is important as it saves the users from creating a new account and password to remember for yet another website/product.
  • The cost of a user license is nothing compared to the cost of data loss or a company network breach. It secures our devices and data in cases of theft or breaches. Theft of a device, data, or even worse a breach would cost the company thousands to millions of dollars.
  • A negative impact is that the users lose about 10-30 seconds with every login or unlock of their computer. However, this is necessary for MFA security.
AuthPoint was a clear choice when comparing these products. With a mixed OS environment, Cisco Duo did not seem to work well. Azure MFA does not work with MAC OS. Watchguard AuthPoint met what we needed.
Having this as a cloud service just makes sense. With traveling staff, we need a service that is 100% reliable and managed. We are a small business with staff wearing many hats, so if this was only self-hosted we could run into trouble if our network would go down or if there were other server issues on our network. Having this in the cloud reduces complexities and we know it is taken care of.
It has been well received by employees and most of them say that it is a quicker process than they thought it would be. One or two staff have complained about the time it takes to log in again or unlock their screen if it has locked up while not in use. However, this is the point of it, to secure the devices and environment.
All our staff is experiencing password/login overload. The Keychain utility in MAC OS is very helpful in keeping these all in place and secure, but to add yet another login for them still can cause more stress and yet another login to manage. AuthPoint integration with Azure AD, LDAP, and Active Directory is a great feature and helps keep our systems linked. This saves time and headaches for our users. It also simplifies things for the IT Manager.

Using WatchGuard AuthPoint

25 - President/CEO COO Business Advisor Sales Manager, Human Resources, Controller Senior, Developer Software Developer, Mechanical Engineer Service Manager, Project Manager, Reception Executive Assistant, Any Local Administrator Account, Any Domain Administrator Account.
2 - It would be best to be an Experienced IT Manager to support this product. With some training, most people with minimal IT knowledge could provide first-level support for the product too, such as if a device is lost or they need to activate a new mobile device token. Now that it is set up, there is not much to do.
  • Multi-Factor Security.
  • Data Protection.
  • User account security.
  • Exceptions can be added for users who do not have administrative permissions, then they also do not need a license.
  • Works really well with local user accounts, Microsoft Azure accounts, and local domain accounts.
  • MFA for WatchGuard Mobile VPN as we are currently using another solution.
  • The Identity Provider (IdP) portal for SAML resources.
Great product so far. I don't see us changing from this. WatchGuard provides a high-value package.

Evaluating WatchGuard AuthPoint and Competitors

We currently use WatchGuard Firebox for firewall. AuthPoint is a great addition to our setup. Mixed OS compatibility, flexible and easy to setup and manage.
No change. I compared three vendors products and chose the best!
