Use Cases and Deployment Scope

WatchGuard Network Security, at its most basic, is a firewall. I have used their Firewalls for years now, and I would say they are some of the most reliable and well-working products. WatchGuard Network Security, with their Firewalls and their Endpoint Protection, form a very good duo to help both manage your network from external threats and help internal control threats as well. The ease of use of the product is one of the best things about it. It allows for simple rules and has a predefined template out of the gate, but you can get as granular as you want, which provides experts with the ability to fortify their network. I use the firewall and endpoint protection to create that layered security. It allows for the management of network threats; you have IDS/IPS and host sensors that allow you to create threat detection at the local computer level. It is one of the best products out there for network security. You could not do better than WatchGuard.

Implementation Rating

Super easy. Following Documentation made it so much easier. If you come across any issue, their support is fast and super knowledgeable. They are some of the most helpful people I have dealt with in the support industry. Lastly, ensuring that you are able to get to all of the devices on your network makes the deployment much better.

WatchGuard Network Security Packaging and Licensing

This bundle made it such an easy decision to be able to get all of the features that we needed and more. It provided us with more protection and features that we have made use of. Being able to use Intelligent AV on the gateway is a fantastic addition along with the Web blocker making this one of the products out there. Knowing we got all of that and more bundled at a good price was spectacular.

Alternatives Considered

pfSense

Both are solid products. I liked the all-in-one package of the firewall. It allowed me to have everything in a simple license rather than having to add bits and pieces via updates or third-party applications. It provided me with a greater piece of mind to go with WatchGuard as they have a dedicated support team and are constantly evolving to provide better service to their customers.

Small Organizations all the way up to Large Corporations, Watchguard has a product for you. Be it their smaller firewalls or their larger firewalls. If you are a financial corporation, I feel that their entire suite would be a fantastic addition to your company's security architecture. If you are someone who is not worried about threats externally or are running a small side business, their products may not be as useful to you.
