Overall Satisfaction with Windows Azure

Windows Azure was used (by the previous organization that I was at) for emails and also for engineering development purposes. The business problem was to work on developing a software solution that would run in the Azure cloud.
  • Windows Azure console was intuitive. Easy to pick up and start rolling the solution out.
  • I like the fact that if you were previously familiar with Windows AD, this was all very easy to use to manage user access and grant privileges to specific products.
  • Hassle free. For example, deploying a SQL servers were a cinch. There's no need to deal with prereq. especially if you want to quickly deploy and run dev tests etc.
  • Security can always be improved. No matter what cloud product we use, security is always paramount to ensure the adoption of a cloud solution.
  • Faster deployments. no more hassle of figuring out pre-reqs etc.
  • Ease of use. People are already very familiar with Microsoft products, making solutions up in the cloud is just the next step.
  • Flexibile. I can easily just grant user access to specific products and then let them manage their own dev/test environment.
  • AWS
Windows Azure has a lot of room for improvements. Regardless of which cloud product it is, security is always paramount. AWS has been doing this for many, many years and they've done a lot of things to ensure their cloud is very very secure.
Windows Azure is well suited for:
  • A corporate infrastructure that can be managed offsite (i.e. mail servers, etc).
  • Development and tests.
