Overall Satisfaction with Windows Server

We manage Windows Server for a few of our clients who need it for computer lab deployments or data sharing among office staff. In a Windows environment, it's the only way to go to get good control over devices and easily provide access to shared resources like drives and printers over the network.
  • Manage accounts
  • Share printers
  • Organize files
  • User friendly interfaces
  • GUI tools for common tasks currently relegated to Powershell
  • Licensing can be incredibly difficult
  • User management
  • Network management
  • Data access
  • Great for managing large organizations at scale
  • Saves time by providing a single point for many common tasks
  • Simplifies mass deployments (ie pushing a new printer to everyone)
There are plenty of other server solutions out there which may be better suited for certain tasks, but Windows Server is the way to get a Windows environment going. For simple setups, there are many alternatives, but often there are key features lacking, or a restriction on customization which makes them unsuitable.

Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Microsoft Intune + SCCM), Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
If you run a Windows or mixed environment and want to share resources, Windows Server is the way to do it. It can do quite a bit, but because of that, it is a very complex set of tools, so be prepared to invest a lot in getting it set up and maintaining things.
